  •

    Do I need to register?

In order to be active in the PTG league you need to sign up as an interested gamer on www.playthegamer.com you will receive a confirmation email with log in details to the site.

  •

Do I have to play every week?

No, you can play as often as you choose. The more you play, the more likely you are to get a place at Regionals. The league offers a great night out and can be a regular evening of fun however, if you can't make it one night then you will not lose any points, you just won't make any!

We suggest you play every week to be in with a shot of the big prizes and be the overall PTG champion.  You may just want to play for the individual game titles rather than the overall PTG title, then you only need to go once every three weeks!

  •

What if I don’t know how to play one of the games?

You can still go along and enjoy a great night out. The games are all classic formats and are easy to learn but difficult to master!

You may just want to play one game i.e. play FIFA nights and not the others. This will take away your chance at the PTG title however the individual game title will still be up for grabs.

  •

What if I don’t have a PTG venue near me?

Why not suggest a venue? If you have a local pub, bar or social club that you think would be a good Play the Gamer venue then why not ask them. Let them know about the league and see if they are interested. If you are not confident about doing this, get in touch with our PTG sales team (details on contact page) and tell them the venue name and we will give them a call.

  •

Do I have to pay for website subscription?

Play the Gamer player website membership is totally free. If you play in the league, you are already contributing to the Regional and National Finals with your £1 weekly mandatory contribution.  We don't need any further money off you. (Please be aware that venues can charge an additional fee for players to take part on the night) You will get login details for the website as soon as the register your details.

  •

Will the games always be the same?

The games for the first season are as follows: FIFA 11, Need for Speed Shift and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. We are not making venues change to FIFA 11, however should a venue wish to purchase it and run with it they must be aware that at the Regional Finals FIFA 11 will be used.

  •

How much is the cash prize?

The cash prize is built up of the weekly £1 mandatory per player contribution collected from each PTG venue. This will add up to a very exciting prize. Based on 70 venues around the country with an average of 10 players per venue the prize pool for the Regional and National Finals for the first season is about £30,000. (See Prize Pool tab) We are working on a method of having a grand total updated on the website once a week!

  •

    Do we play online?

Play the Gamer is a live league and you only play the people you are in the room with. We are aiming at bringing gamers back to live play in a social atmosphere. Playing online is great and as the league grows we will look at including it, however at the moment, it is all about the live experience.

  •

    Can I run a night?

If you want to be one of our advocates and take charge of a night then talk to your venue manager and see if they are happy for you to do so. They may want you to run the whole thing or they may want you to just help. Some venue owners and managers are reluctant to get involved as they are not gamers, if you want to run the night for them they may be more than happy to become a PTG venue.

If you can't find a venue and you have a few friends who want to play the league, why not just do it at home? For example, if there are ten of you playing, you only need to contribute £3 each a week (£76.38 inc VAT per month + £1 per player prize pool per night) and you are in the league! What an awesome night in!

  •

    What console is used?

PTG venues have a choice of Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 which are the two most popular consoles in the world and are the platforms that run all three of the league games.

  •

How many people can play at a venue per night?

The venues are not limited to a maximum number of players. However, if there are more than 15 people, we advise that there is more than one console, due to the length of time each game takes and the number of games required, the use of an extra console allows for more people to play.

  •

Do I pay for Regional and National Finals?

You do not pay anything for the Regional and National Finals; your £1 nightly contribution goes toward the cash prizes. You do not incur any extra cost apart from your own transport and food costs.

  •

How do I find a venue close to me?

On the Play the Gamer website there is a postcode finder where you put in your postcode and the venues in your locality will be shown with a link to their details and their web page.

If there is no venue which is local to you, why not suggest the league to a venue where you would like to play, they are bound to have a quiet period during the week, and if you can interest some of your friends, then they are even more likely to say yes.

The venue owner/manager can enter their post code and see how many registered players there are in their area waiting for a venue to play at, so this might help make up the numbers. If you do recommend PTG to your local venue and they decide to join, we'll send you a £20 voucher just for the introduction.
