How It All Works

The League

  • Each Play the Gamer event is run once a week and venues can choose the time and day that suits them. The first few weeks will give venues an idea of the best time to run the event. The league format gives the venue a regular group of business.
  • Each league is run over 12 weeks, there are 4 leagues per year.
  • Venues can join at any time during the league.
  • The entrance fee for each gaming night is decided by the venue; however a mandatory £1 is required from each player.
  • Gamers compete on 3 of the top games: FIFA 11, Need for Speed Shift and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.
  • Venues can choose to play one of the games OR all three games!
  • At the end of the 12 weeks there is a Regional Final.
  • There will be 2 National Finals per year to which all Regional Finalists will be invited to attend.

Venue Owner Sign Up

  • When you register as a venue owner you will be sent log-in details by email which will give you access to the entire PTG site.
  • The venue owner or score up-loader will have log-in details which allows you access to the administration area of the PTG site where you can add players to your venue and allocated their scores.
  • The PTG website will give you a great opportunity to market your venue and let the rest of your region know what is going on at your venue.

When you register as a venue you will receive

  • A venue welcome pack which gives you details of everything you need to know to run a successful night. We know that not every venue owner plays these games and our step by step guide allows for you to be confident on what each night consists of and how it works.
  • We will supply you with a very straight forward set of score sheets. These will detail exactly what scores need to be logged each night. As we suggest, it is more than likely that you will have an enthusiast who offers to log the scoring for you. If not, our easy to follow score sheets will give you everything you need to know. However, different gamers may want to agree on different formats. The only set details are the scores you upload.
  • Details on which game needs to be played each week as well as what scores to record. A detailed step-by-step guide if you want to control the set up yourself. We supply the suggested game format, but this is only as strict as you want it to be.
  • Posters and postcards to promote your Play the Gamer event.
  • Link with facebook.com/playthegamer community and support from our Twitter channel to help you get involved in the social networking aspect to raise the profile of your Play the Gamer night.

On the Night

  • Each gamer's contact details must be recorded so that their details and scores can be input into the PTG site.
  • A mandatory £1 is required from each player to take part each night which will be collected by the venue owner/night coordinator. This money will be paid when the scores are uploaded, via our website. ALL of the mandatory £1's paid will go towards Regional and National Prize Pools.
  • An extra £1 could be requested to add a more competitive edge to each evening. This will run in a similar format to the classic pub quiz: £ in a pint glass and the winner receives the takings, making it more fun and competitive for those taking part.
  • A further £1 contribution could be offered to the member of the group who is running the evening. This individual will be responsible for taking the scores and maybe even supplying the console. The extra £1 per player offers an incentive for their involvement.
  • Each game will have two or four players competing against each other depending on the game, these players will be selected at random. The games are easy to set up and your players will all know what they need to do.
  • On each night there will be three events for each player to take part in i.e. on a FIFA night, each player will play three matches and have three scores recorded. The scoring is already pre-set on each game and it is just a case of recording the correct data after each individual match. The competitive nature of the games will ensure that scoring is done in a fair and correct manner (a task also controlled by a venue leader).
  • At the end of the event, the venue needs to log onto their LiLi account and submit each player's scores (an easy process that will become second nature after the first few events). Once the scores are uploaded, LiLi will process them and place them into a venue league table. The table will be accessible to all players via the Play the Gamer website; www.playerthegamer.com. The league table is available in print format and online.

Regional Finals

  • Each venue will get a certain number of qualifiers for Regional Finals
  • Great cash prizes and places at National Finals can be won at Regional Finals
  • The venue owners have no responsibility to get the winners to the Regional Finals, which is up to the competitors.
  • Regional winners win great cash prizes and a place at the National Finals

National Finals

  • 2 National Finals per year
  • 3 game champions and 1 overall Play the Gamer champion will be chosen
  • National winner is crowned Play the Gamer National Champion
  • Great cash prizes up for grabs for the National Finalists
  • National Finals will be held in a central location
  • The UK National Finals will be held in a central location and run alongside one of the UK's largest gaming events.  The National Finals will offer large screen-play, intense competition, thousands of potential spectators and all the excitement of any sporting final!
  • The winner will be crowned the "UK Play the Gamer Champion" and receive a great cash prize and trophy.
